ACIM Workbook Lesson 2 – for Sunday, January 2, 2011
Affirmation: “I have given everything I see in this room all the meaning that it has for me.”
Selected Passage:
“Remain as indiscriminate as possible in selecting subjects for. . .application, do not concentrate on anything in particular, and do not attempt to include everything you see in a given area, or you will introduce strain. (WB4)”
Reflections:
This second lesson makes the first a little clearer. Note that there is a logical progression. Jesus does not want us to experience strain in our lives, and he makes sure in what he gives us in ACIM that we build on what we have previously read, so that we are not frightened by the ego’s wily ways.
We have given our world its meaning. In itself the world has none that is apart from us.
This understanding is assuming that we are viewing from the ego’s perspective, which virtually all of us do when first confronted with the A Course in Miracles. The ego’s perspective means that we do not have knowledge from God; we do have perception of the ego, which leads to the projection of the world that we see. These are all ideas developed in the Text. But it is the Workbook that will lead these ideas to come to have understanding for us, and thus to lead eventually, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to knowledge from God.
Prayer:
Dear Father/Mother,
Help me to understand that what I see has been given its meaning by me. If this meaning is a perception of the ego, then I will see a fearful world. But I do not want to see a fearful world today.
Help me to see a loving world today. Help me to realize that the choice of the meaning that I see in this world is, ultimately, my choice–informed by either the ego or the Holy Spirit. Help me to see the loving world of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
