ACIM Workbook Lesson 76 – for Thursday, March 17, 2011
Affirmation: “I am under no laws but God’s.”
Selected Passage:
“Think of the freedom in the recognition that you are not bound by all the strange and twisted laws you have set up to save you. You really think that you would starve unless you have stacks of green paper strips and piles of metal discs. You really think a small round pellet or some fluid pushed into your veins through a sharpened needle will ward off disease and death. You really think you are alone unless another body is with you.
“It is insanity that thinks these things. (WB134)”
Reflections:
This is the ultimate solution, the optimal solution. But elsewhere Jesus does not denounce medical remedies, because to do so would increase fear, and the last thing that the fearful need is an increase in fear (a Text tenet). Likewise, it we think that we need money, and we are fearful without it, we can speculate (though it is not stated in ACIM) that we would be wise to obtain money in the manner that best allows us to forget it, once it has been obtained, and not to dwell on the “love of money.”
Our thoughts about both medicine and financial means are fear-inspired. Jesus takes a tolerant view elsewhere, as we have noted. We need to address the conditions that have brought the fear about, and for this we can ask for help (a Text tenet).
Jesus also says elsewhere that he cannot remove our fear for us, because to do so would disturb the law of cause and effect, a most basic law. But we can ask, and receive (as noted), help in the conditions that brought the fear about. If this is a health issue or a monetary issue, then our prayers for help are well-received, and these prayers will bring results.
Prayer:
Dear Father/Mother,
May I know in my innermost being today that I am not bound by the laws that the world made up. I will still make use of some of these laws, if my understanding is not great enough to withdraw from them. I do not want to do anything to increase my fear. Help me to be at peace today.
Thank You for calling to my attention that many of the laws that we believe in are “strange and twisted.” This is an insane world, and we would do well not to underestimate the extent of its insanity.
Amen.
