ACIM Workbook Lesson 158 – for Tuesday, June 7, 2011
Affirmation: “Today I learn to give as I receive.”
“Time is a trick, a sleight of hand, a vast illusion in which figures come and go as if by magic. Yet there is a plan behind appearances that does not change. The script is written. When experience will come to end your doubting has been set. For we but see the journey from the point at which it ended, looking back on it, imagining we make it once again; reviewing mentally what has gone by. (WB298)”
The passage is part of the mystical teaching of A Course in Miracles. It says that we are actually living in the past, standing at the end of the journey, reviewing all that has already happened. We may not be ready to accept this. It does seem to partake of predestination, and predestination is a controversial theological concept that we would be wise to fail to take a stand upon. (Reincarnation is another controversial theological belief that we need to step aside from, as ACIM counsels.) Theology can only delay us; we would seek an experience only. And ACIM is always practical in its advice. We do not want anything that is separating to intrude on our experience, and on the experience of our brothers and sisters.
We know from the Theory of Relativity, Einstein’s theory, that time is an illusion. Our physics has advanced that far. So ACIM is not really so foreign to our science, even in this relatively non-advanced place in which we find ourselves.
“The script is written.” But if we believe in probable realities (as Jane Roberts of the Seth books proclaimed), then we do have some effect upon the direction that our lives will take. We can choose the short and easy route to salvation and Awakening, or we can disregard words such as given in ACIM, and walk the long and hazardous route back to our Home. Let us today decide to follow the easy route, following the guidance that the Holy Spirit so gladly offers to all of us.
I welcome the mystery of being told that I stand at the end of a journey already completed. If this be so, then the end is certain; I will find my way home. You will guide me through the Holy Spirit, when I am flexible enough to turn on a dime, and when I am flexible enough to be willing to step aside and be led. Let me be willing to step aside for You to lead the way today.
Thank You, as always, for being there for me. I sometimes forget You. But please, don’t You forget me.
