Peace So Deep and Quiet

ACIM Workbook Lesson 305 – for Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Affirmation:  “There is a peace that Christ bestows on us.”

“Who uses but Christ’s vision finds a peace so deep and quiet, undisturbable and wholly changeless, that the world contains no counterpart.  (WB452)”

Reflections:

1 – Christ’s Vision Sees the Real World

Christ’s vision sees the real world, the world informed by the Holy Spirit by following His guidance.  It is not the egoic world, definitely not.  The real world, reality, is God’s world, and it behooves us to ask to spend more time there.  If we seek peace, calm, tranquility, and serenity, we will automatically seek silence more.  We will live in God’s presence.  And we will live the way of A Course in Miracles and A Course of Love (viewed by some as a sequel to ACIM).

2 – The Peace that Passeth Understanding

This peace is, I believe, the “peace that passeth understanding” of the New Testament.  Jesus has not really changed in 2000 years; he has simply adapted with the times.  Perhaps there is much in the New Testament that was a misreading of his message, and, if so, the world was ready for his channeling of A Course in Miracles.

3 – Living the Workbook of A Course in Miracles

Now that we are far along in the year of the Workbook for Students, we know better the tenets of ACIM, and it is up to us to incorporate these truths so that we actually live them.  We will find this peace that is “deep and quiet, undisturbable and wholly changeless” (see above).

4 – The Self Lives in the Real World

May we ask for the Self, the Christ (not Jesus alone), to bestow on us today this peace that we so crave.  This Self has never been incarnated; it is the real Self upon which we can draw for the “elevated Self of form” (from A Course of Love).  May we live today in a Self that is ever closer to being sustained.  And this will be the truly real world, the true reality.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

I would see with the vision of my Self, the higher Self that is known as the Christ.  I would not attach egoic notions to this appellation.  I would remain only myself, knowing that it is You who effect change in me.  Jesus has pointed out the Way in A Course in Miracles.  Please, today, help me to live what he has pointed out.

I would live in the real world, the world of peace, joy, harmony, and reconciliation with all of my brothers and sisters.  Let me not even hint at attack or anger today.  This, I ask, is to be a day of special dedication to You.  Be with me as I make this dedication to You and Your peace.

Amen.

Perception = A Mirror = Not a Fact

ACIM Workbook Lesson 304 – for Monday, October 31, 2011

Affirmation:  “Let not my world obscure the sight of Christ.”

“Perception is a mirror, not a fact.  and what I look on is my state of mind, reflected outward.  I would bless the world by looking on it through the eyes of Christ.  And I will look upon the certain signs that all my sins have been forgiven me.  (WB451)”

Reflections:

1 – Projection Makes Perceptions

This is a repetition of the oft-repeated “projection makes perception.”  It is the way in which we create our own reality.  There is no other answer.  The Holy Spirit will give the Answer when we are ready, and we can pray that this blessing will come soon.

2 – May We See with the Eyes of Christ

If perception is a mirror of our state of mind, it behooves to be careful what we entertain in our minds.  This would encourage us to seek out uplifting reading, good entertainment, happy experiences.  We can do much to effect this.  When we see with the eyes of Christ, we will see a new and joyful world.  The old will no longer attract us, the old with its egoistic notions–notions which led only to pain.  May we find the way today.  May we delay no longer.

3 – Our Forgiven “Sins”

When we know that our “sins” have been forgiven, we will realize that we are still as God created us.  We are innocent, though this may be one of the most difficult tenets of the Text to incorporate into our worldview.  We will bless ourselves and others.  We will know love intimately for the first time.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

May I see with the eyes of Christ today, and may I not be tempted to attach any egotism to this.  It is Your Will that I have vision.  May my projections make a perception that is good and true, loving and peaceful.  Be with me today as I attempt to make changes that will influence my world to be a better place.

May we come to understand what it means to say, “projection makes perception.”  We do not often understand fully what this means.  I would keep its meaning, that this world is simply an illusion that I have projected, close to my heart today.

Amen.

Christ Reborn = Our Real Self

ACIM Workbook Lesson 303 – for Sunday, October 30, 2011

Affirmation:  “The holy Christ is born in me today.”

“Let Christ be welcomed where He is at home.  And let Him hear the sounds He understands, and see but sights that show His Father’s Love.  Let Him no longer be a stranger here, for He is born again in me today.  (WB451)”

Reflections:

1 – What It Means for Christ to Be Born in Me

When Christ is born again in us, we are living the Self that is our real Self.  We are no longer the little self (as I have called it), the egoic self.  May we take this step into the sunlight today.

2 – Welcome the Self and Know Peace

If we welcome the Christ, the Self that we really are, we will know peace.  We will no longer be followed about by dreams, illusions, of disaster.  Even if bad things happen (and they may, though they are less likely), then we will rise above, with the help of the Holy Spirit.  We create our own reality, and we will not miscreate anymore.  We will know how to live well, and we will not dwell on mistakes and misdeeds.  We will forgive ourselves and others, and then we will create aright in our little world.  Joy follows inexorably.

3 – We Create Our Own Reality

Jane Roberts, in the “Seth” (an entity she channeled) books, often said that we “create our own reality.”  Jesus says the same in ACIM.  And that reality will be good if we learn how to think with God.  We do not have to suffer in silence.  We do not have to suffer at all (though we may, for we are fallible).  When we dream the happy dreams the Holy Spirit brings (from the Workbook), we are being prepared for the real world, which sees only good.  Mother Teresa wrote about seeing “Jesus in all his distressing disguises.”  She certainly saw much suffering in her life, even in her own life.  But she kept the faith.  And Jesus would ask us to do the same.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

Help me to understand my Self, Who is Meant by the Christ.  These final thoughts in the Workbook are puzzling, and I need Your help not to let the ego intrude.  None of us has anything that everyone else does not have.  We are all One.  Help me to know that to say that Christ is born in me is not an egoic statement.

Be with us today as we seek to create the reality in which we live.  May that real world be inhabited by each of us for longer and longer periods of time.  We need to let this illusory world fall from our sight and be replaced with a seeing that is almost incomprehensible to us now.  May we look only with love, and may we have the vision that You would have us understand.

Amen.

Fear Disappears when Love Comes

ACIM Workbook Lesson 302 – for Saturday, October 29, 2011

Affirmation:  “Where darkness was I look upon the light.”

“Father, our eyes are opening at last.  Your holy world awaits us, as our sight is finally restored and we can see.  We thought we suffered.  But we had forgot the Son whom You created.  Now we see that darkness is our own imagining, and light is there for us to look upon.  Christ’s vision changes darkness into light, for fear must disappear when love has come.  Let me forgive Your holy world today, that I may look upon its holiness and understand it but reflects my own.  (WB450)”

Reflections:

1 – Out Eyes Are Now Open

This lovely prayer summarizes much from A Course in Miracles.  We see when our eyes are open, and we do not “see” at all when we have sightless eyes that see an illusory world.  Jesus is preparing us to see the real world, the reality that God would have us see.  When we have seen little edges of light around familiar objects, and perhaps the Great Rays have visited us, we will know that we are following along the right pathway.  It may be years before the real world arises before our eyes, but arise it will.  The certainty of our right direction, under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, assures this.

2 – Fear Has Disappeared

When fear has disappeared, we will know that we are on the way home.  This too may take a long time, but as we have noted in previous blogs, the pace and timing of the universe is different from our own.  We don’t know how long a “day” is in God’s time.

3 – Forgive = Doing Our Part

If we forgive, we are doing our part.  We do not have, even, to forgive totally, because Jesus stands at the end of the road to correct the errors that we have not been able to correct.  Just a little willingness is all ACIM asks of us.  But it is enough.  The work of the Holy Spirit is infinitely more than what we do, and we are blessed that this is true.  We would in all likelihood mess everything up, if left to our own devices.  (Much of the above are paraphrases from ACIM.)

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

I would walk with open eyes, seeing with vision, today.  I would not believe that this world is real, that my eyes show me a real world, but I will believe that when I see love, I am seeing reality.  May I experience love today wherever I go.  May I do my part to have this experience be mine.  Thank You for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Who will lead me in the right way to look without error.

May I forgive if I believe myself wronged today.  May I know that even this experience is one that, on some level, I have chosen.  We are always living the world that we have made.  May I choose today to make that world a loving, peaceful, joyous place, and may I confront my brothers and sisters with only goodness in my heart.

Thank You for the guidance that will enable me to have a good day.

Amen.

God Himself Shall Wipe Away All Tears

ACIM Workbook Lesson 301 – for Friday, October 28, 2011

Affirmation:  “And God Himself shall wipe away all tears.”

“Father, unless I judge I cannot weep.  Nor can I suffer pain, or feel I am abandoned or unneeded in the world.  This is my home because I judge it not, and therefore is it only what You will.  Let me today behold it uncondemned, through happy eyes forgiveness has released from all distortion.  Let me see Your world instead of mine.  And all the tears I shed will be forgotten, for their source is gone.  Father, I will not judge Your world.  (WB450)”

Reflections:

1 – Judging = Lose Our Way

Judging is one sure way to lose our way.  We can see the happy dreams of the Holy Spirit for years, even, and then drop into judging, and feel lost again.  We are not lost, actually; we never are.  But we will feel lost, and we will not feel the “felt presence of Being” (from Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now).

2 – No Weeping, Pain, Feeling Abandoned or Unneeded

This is a reassuring passage if we see that we cannot weep, suffer pain, feel abandoned or unneeded–unless we judge.  This statement seems almost too good to be true.

3 – Vow to Judge Nothing that Occurs

But try it out.  For one day, vow to judge nothing that occurs.  If we start to judge, we must say firmly (even shout) inwardly, “Stop!”  And watch to see if the day does not unfold better than any previous one in which judgment has gotten a toehold.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

I would not judge today.  I know that I tend to judge when I am stressed–as I tend to get angry or to attack when in that same frame of mind.  All of this foolishness, and it is foolishness, is the extent–on any given day–that I have forgotten You, that I have let the ego rule again in my little world.  I would choose anew today, on this day that you warn me against judging.  The solution is always to allow my Guide, the Holy Spirit, to judge the right pathway for me to take.  His is also the means by which other people ought only to be judged.  It is never for me to do.  Help me to remember this truth wherever I walk today.

I would leave aside pain in all its forms.  I especially would leave aside anxiety, which is a particularly potent form of pain for me.  I would turn to You for the equanimity that allows a free and easy walk through this world.

Help me to stay close to You all day long.  Thank You.

Amen.

Heaven Is Restored to Me

ACIM Workbook Lesson 300 – for Thursday, October 27, 2011

Affirmation:  “Only an instant does this world endure.”

“We see Your holy world today.  For we, Your loving Sons, have lost our way a while.  But we have listened to Your Voice, and learned exactly what to do to be restored to Heaven and our true Identity.  And we give thanks today the world endures but for an instant.  We would go beyond that tiny instant to eternity.  (WB448)”

Reflections:

1 – How to Avoid Mistakes

We have listened to “Your Voice,” which is God’s Holy Spirit, or the Universal Inspiration (from the Text).  The more quickly we listen, when confronted with a decision point, the more likely we are to follow in God’s way.  We will not be as likely to make mistakes; indeed, making mistakes is impossible when we learn to discern the Holy Spirit’s prompting.

2 – How Does the Holy Spirit Prompt?

How does He prompt?  The most accessible to me is what I call my intuition.  Other ways are a “feeling” that I ought to do a certain thing, a thought that will not leave my mind about a way to proceed, an inner knowing of what God is pointing out for me to do.  Many find the Holy Spirit’s guidance in silence, when communing with God.  An inner knowing overcomes us, and we just recognize, without strain, the next step to take.

3 – This World Can Be Seen as Holy

This world is indeed holy when seen through the eyes of God.  We wander aimlessly about this world until we turn, once again, to God.  We may wander away many times in the course of a lifetime, but, not matter, as long as we ask forgiveness and seek the pathway again.  We would not wander aimlessly down many pathways, although the world offers many.  This would be meaningless, as well as a crucial delay on the road to salvation.  We do not need to follow all the pathways of this world, only to decide in the end that God’s pathway is best.  We can decide this right now, and it would behoove us to do so.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

May I follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting consistently today.  May I not drop into defiance.  May I know that He always shows me the way that I would choose, if I had the knowledge that He does.  May I be flexible, even when my reason seems to be listening to the ego that I would disown.

Be with us today as we go about our business in this world.  May we see the world as holy, as You see it.  May this day be a glorious one.  And may I do what I can do to assist my brothers and sisters to see the holiness that You point out to me.

Thank You for always staying by my side.

Amen.

Illusions Cannot Dim My Holiness

ACIM Workbook Lesson 299 – for Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Affirmation:  “Eternal holiness abides in me.”

“Father, my holiness is not of me.  It is not mine to be destroyed by sin.  It is not mine to suffer from attack.  Illusions can obscure it, but can not put out its radiance, nor dim its light.  It stands forever perfect and untouched.  (WB448)”

Reflections:

1 – Are We Holy?

We are hesitant to call ourselves “holy.”  We do not seem worthy, regardless of how far along the pathway we have walked.  We think somehow that it is an unseemly thing to say or even to think.

2 – Our Retreat into Feverish Dreams

But Jesus would say that this is the arrogance of the ego.  We are actually holy because God has called us thus.  We have not changed our Self since we were created.  We have merely retreated into feverish dreams, illusions, maya.  But we are still as God created us (from the Workbook).  We are still holy.

3 – Our Holiness = Not Changed by Detour into Fear

Our holiness has not been touched by the detour into fear that we made at the time that we thought that we separated from God (paraphrases from the Text).  We have not, it is true, been in communication with God, for we have been asleep.  But we can awaken, and He will effect this for us when we are ready.  Even early on, we will see glimpses of Awakening before it is sustained.  And A Course of Love is all about the elevated Self of form, the walking in this world of an Awakened individual.  (Many view A Course of Love as a sequel to ACIM, one that was also channeled by Jesus.)

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

May I feel humble as I retreat from arrogance and contemplate the idea that I am still the holy individual that You created.  May I not let these thoughts cause the ego to reemerge.  May I know that I am still as You created me, though I have detoured into fear, and I have made mistakes that beg for correction.

Help my correction to be gentle.  Jesus says that we do not have to learn through pain.  I ask today that I learn and experience all that You would wish for me, in the manner that You wish.  I do realize that You would not have me suffer pain, and even that You do not grant any credence to this illusion, because it is illusion.  Help me to learn through rewards, which can only come when I have surrendered to Your Teacher, the Holy Spirit.

Thank You for leading me this far, and thank You that my detour into fear has been as benign as it has been.  This does not mean that I will never again know pain, only that it is unnecessary.  May I follow in the Way that You point out to me through Your Universal Inspiration, the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
