Jesus Is Speaking in A Course of Love

“But if your joining with Christ is the accomplishment and completion oif all lessons, who is he who provides the lessons?  This is Jesus.  (A Course of Love, P.38)”

Affirmation:  “May I listen to Jesus today.”

Reflections:

1 – Jesus Speaking to Mari

I feel more certain than not that the one who sent A Course of Love to Mari Perron was indeed Jesus.  Perhaps Jesus will not be disappointed that I do not affirm with certainty that he is speaking, for there have been many scribes since Helen Schucman who believed themselves to be channeling Jesus.

2 – The Language of ACOL

The proof is in how the words, the material of A Course in Love, reacts on me.  I do not find questionable passages.  Like A Course in Miracles, the words ring true.  And certainly I trust Mari Perron in her belief that the channeler was Jesus.  I have interviewed her and found her credible and overwhelmingly sincere, and she is a mystic (in my opinion) with a humble attitude that shows no arrogance.

3 – A Channeled Work

These words were indeed channeled, and the individual coming through to Mari said that he was Jesus.  At this point (and this has been true for a long time), this is enough for me.  I feel drawn to A Course of Love as to no work since A Course in Miracles.  And so I will do what I can to introduce A Course of Love to individuals who may find in the work the next logical step after ACIM.  Perhaps Jesus has unfinished business with us, and wants to carry us beyond what A Course in Miracles, channeled in the sixties, could do.  I would like to think that.  And I pray that I would mislead nobody.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

When Jesus speaks, may we listen.  This has been true for multitudes of people in the last 2,000 years.  And I believe that he is speaking in A Course of Love.

Be with us as we seek to learn together what he would tell us.  And may nothing that we say or do ever reflect poorly on his message.

Amen.

Power of Heaven to Earth

“Jesus accepted his power and so brought the power of heaven to earth.  This is what the Christ in you can teach you to do.  This is miracle-mindedness.  This is love.  (A Course of Love, P.37)”

Affirmation:  “May I learn how to bring heaven to earth.”

Reflections:

1 – Brothers to Jesus

We are once again, in this passage as throughout A Course of Love, to recognize ourselves as brothers to Jesus, he an elder brother (as in A Course in Miracles).  But, as he said more than once in A Course in Miracles, he does not have anything that we cannot have.  This early in A Course of Love he is still teaching us.

2 – The Time of Christ-Consciousness

Would we not want to learn how to bring heaven to earth?  To say that we can learn this is a bold statement, but one foreshadowed by A Course in Miracles.  Here A Course of Love indicates that it is the Christ in us that will teach us.  So we are herein moving farther along; we are no longer in the time of the Holy Spirit, but in the time of Christ-consciousness.

3 – The Way Takes Patience and Willingness to Learn

Of course, I do not believe that this shift is made easily.  We are taught in A Course in Miracles that the way may be taught, but it takes great patience and great willingness to learn (a paraphrase).  Not all of us have experienced Christ-consciousness at all, but there is the truth that before Christ-consciousness is sustained (something very, very rare), we see glimpses of the truth, the Christ-consciousness.  And we can take back to our everyday living, our minds and spirit, the truths of what we experienced in that altered consciousness.

4 – Miracle-Mindedness

Miracle-mindedness means love, and when we love enough, we will experience Christ-consciousness more and more of our time (not stated in A Course of Love, but interpreted by me).

5 – Our Daily Walk

Let us ask God today to grant us this blessing our normal walk through life, a daily walk.  And may He know that we are ready for experience.  Being ready does include not being afraid of the experience, and A Course in Miracles has shined a light into our minds that will eliminate much if not all of the fear.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

We would know You more and more, as we would open our hearts to the realization of the Christ within who is our Self.  We may not understand this, but if we ponder these thoughts, perhaps the Way will become clearer.

We ask for Awakening, Christ-consciousness.  May You prepare us as far as our willingness will allow.  And, before this greatest of blessings, may we see glimpses that do not frighten us.

Amen.

Identity = God’s Child / Child of Man = Christ / Self

“The way to overcome the dualism that threatens even the most astute of learners is through the Christ in you, through the One who knows what it is to be God’s child and also to walk the earth as child of man.  This is not your helper, as the Holy Spirit is, but your identity.  (A Course of Love, P.25)”

Affirmation:  “I would overcome my ego with my spirit.”

Reflections:

1 – The Ego and the Spirit

The dualism is the perceived conflict between the ego and the spirit of ourselves.  In actuality, there is no contest, for the ego is nothing, and the spirit is all.  Yet we don’t see it that way, and therefore, until we learn better, we are torn between ego (which has ruled us for eons) and spirit (which wants to come into ascendancy).

2 – Christ / Self in All

This “spirit” is the Self, the Christ, in each of us.  It is described this way in A Course of Love, but not in A Course in Miracles.  In A Course in Miracles, the Holy Spirit was the Helper that we needed.  Now we are asked to look inwardly at the Christ in us.  And He/She is within.

3 – Our Inheritance

Our identity is as God’s Son (“Son” includes daughter) as well as a son of man (“man” includes women).  This seems to be a new kind of dualism, but it is not actually that way in truth.  We are simultaneously both–of God and of man.  These terms were used in the Bible for Jesus, and heretofore in Christianity, he has been viewed as the “only” Son of God.  In A Course of Love, we are asked to recognize that actually to be a Son or Daughter of God is the inheritance of all of us.  It simply remains for us to step forward and to accept our inheritance.

4 – Gender Neutral Language in ACOL

It is noteworthy, perhaps, to realize that gender-neutral language is used in A Course of Love.  Here we do not see “Son” and “son,” but “Child” and “child.”  In A Course in Miracles, channeled in the sixties, when the culture was different, the masculine terminology was used almost exclusively.  The masculine embraced the feminine, but for many younger individuals, the masculine pronouns were a hindrance.  The later channeling of A Course of Love makes correction for our later culture.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

May I come to understand with my spirit the conjunction of Christ and Self.  May I in no way let the ego intrude, for this would lead to misjudgment of the highest kind.  May I see no room for grandiosity in this, the truth of our being.  All of us share the Christ within, but we are not all conscious that this is our inheritance.  May we come to see and understand that God would have us recognize that Jesus has nothing that will not one day also belong to us.

Be with me on this day.  Help me to help others even as I help myself.  And may I reach out to all who seek what I do or say.  May I reach with love.  And may I make clear interpretations that are accurate and peaceful to all who read.

Amen.

Bridge the Distance between Heaven and Hell

“Yet you will not become the bridge.  You refuse to recognize that the Christ in you provides the bridge that you need only walk across to bridge the distance between heaven and hell, between your separated self and union with God and all your brothers and sisters.  (A Course of Love, P.20)”

Affirmation:  “bridge the distance between heaven and hell”

Reflections:

1 – The Bridge

We are not the bridge that will save us.  But the Christ in us does provide the bridge.  We think too much of ourselves, even though we are children of God, when we think that we are the bridge.  The Christ in us, as I read this, has been waiting patiently for recognition, and the time is now for us to so recognize Him/Her.

2 – Union

We walk into heaven, even while living on earth, in this world, when we unite with God in our own knowing, as well as unite with our brothers and sisters.  This is our way out of hell.  A Course in Miracles also offers advice about what is our way out of hell.  The two discussions seem to my mind to be a unity in and of themselves.  We might think of A Course of Love as Jesus’s additional commentary to help us, for many of us stay “stuck” in A Course in Miracles, doing the Workbook over and over, and frustrated that we don’t seem to know Awakening, even after all of our trying.  We are to cease being our own teacher; Jesus is our elder brother, who teaches us for a time, and then, by the conclusion of the third volume in the trilogy of A Course of Love, even he has resigned as our teacher.  He presents himself at that point as our equal.  But he never deserts us, and for that we can be very, very grateful.  Indeed, the gratitude may help to make the truth of this interpretation from Jesus, the truth for us.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

May we unite with God and with our brothers and sisters.  This is the only way for us to realize our inheritance from God, the inheritance of joy and peace and harmony that is meant for us as children of God.

May we know heaven on earth.  May our neuroses fade away even as our ego withers.

Amen.

The Distinction between A Course in Miracles & A Course of Love

“Where the original Course in Miracles was a course in thought reversal and mind training, a course to point out the insanity of the identity crisis and dislodge the ego’s hold, this is a course to establish your identity and to end the reign of the ego.  (A Course of Love, P.8)”

Affirmation:  “Let us end the reign of the ego.”

Reflections:

1 – An Overview

This is a concise statement that will be amplified later on in A Course of Love.  It makes a clear delineation between A Course in Miracles and A Course of Love.  We are led, farther on, to the understanding that we need further instruction, because with what do we replace the reign of the ego?  A Course of Love is Jesus’s next step in clarification for us.  To end the reign of the ego is a negative, but to live “establish your identity” is a positive.  Let us add our thought to his, the thought of our heart, to try to understand and to ask for a heartfelt key to our real identity.

2 – Jesus

We are children of God, and we are brothers to Jesus.  He has already walked the pathway, and in A Course of Love, later on, he says that accepting him is a necessary prelude to the pathway that we have chosen.  Of course, we learned in A Course in Miracles that there are other teachers, but we who are studying together have chosen Jesus as our guide, and it behooves us to accept him fully into our heart.  He can help us, even if we remained somewhat detached from him, but he can help us so much more if we truly invite him into our hearts.  Then the glorious blessings are not stopped by doubt.

3 – End of the Ego

So the reign of the ego ends when we have been through the whole trilogy of A Course of Love.  The first volume, which we are considering in the next several months, is still a learning experience.  Later on, we will find out that there is a time for learning to cease, and for observation to be our way in this world.  But I am getting ahead of ourselves.  For now it is enough to know that the truths of A Course of Love give us a certainty of salvation that we may have missed until now.  And A Course of Love (ACOL) gives us reassurance that our own imperfections do not truly matter.  Jesus can and will step in to correct mistakes that we have not been able to change (this is also a tenet of ACIM).

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

My ego is what gets me in trouble.  It is weakened somewhat, in that I am not nearly as overtly goal-driven, in  an egoic sense, as I used to be.  I no longer thrive on competition (nor feel demoralized by competition).  So again today I ask that You help me to step aside from the egoic mind and to truly let the weakened ego just die.  When I say this, I am thinking of the ego as a part of myself that is actually an insane part of my mind.

I would follow my spirit, informed by You, from my depths.  By this I mean the Self that knows far better than my personal self what I should do next with my life.  And “next” means tonight and tomorrow, as well as years down the road.

Be with me as I seek to follow the way that Jesus points out for all of us.  May I be a good steward of the thoughts that we see in this coursework, and may I interpret with a clear mind and heart what my spirit understands.

Amen.

The Christ in Us

“It is easy to imagine how the Christ in you differs from your ego but not as easy to recognize how the Christ in you differs from spirit.  The Christ in you is that which is capable of learning in human form what it means to be a child of God.  The Christ in you is that which is capable of bridging the two worlds.  (A Course of Love, P.7)”

Affirmation:  “Help me to recognize the Christ in me.”

Reflections:

1 – Christ = the Self

This passage is part of the theology of A Course of Love.  The Christ in us is the Self in us that A Course in Miracles mentions.  And the Christ mitigates between the mind in this world, the mind of the personal self, and the spirit, which is akin to the soul and has never been born.

2 – Beautiful Words in ACOL

While I have given you this quotation to give some context for A Course of Love, we do not need to let theology delay us, if we find the words difficult to understand and, especially, difficult to accept.  Jesus is ever-practical, and in this blog we will assume that it is indeed Jesus who is talking in A Course of Love.  But even if this belief is too much for you to accept, just pay attention to the words, which are lovely indeed.  See if there is not something that will captivate you, as the words did for me.  Give A Course of Love a chance.

3 – Christ-Consciousness

The Christ in us will lead us eventually to Christ-consciousness, or the Awakening, or the Enlightenment.  The words all mean the same.  But in A Course of Love, Jesus says that nobody, just nobody, has sustained Christ-consciousness yet (the trilogy was written ten years ago or so).  He doesn’t even make an exception for himself, and this seems difficult for me to accept, something that I can’t quite know he meant to say.

4 – Glimpses Come First

I do know that many of us have had glimpses of Christ-consciousness, either over a few days, months, or, perhaps, even years.  So we may know what to expect more than we realize.

5 – Christ-Consciousness Ever More Constant

Pray today that Christ-consciousness might come upon more and more of us, sooner and sooner.  Then this world would indeed morph into something much grander than we know today as a troubled and difficult place, with light coming only from our spirituality.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

I would ask You, today, to lead me by the hand and show me another glimpse of Christ-consciousness.  I know that You have done this before for me, at first a long, long time ago–long before I found A Course in Miracles.  Help all whom I encounter today to be happy and at peace.  Help me to increase their happiness and peace.  Joy is the best form of reward for those of us who find Jesus’s message compelling.

Thank You for being there for me when I needed guidance.  I ask for guidance, and the guidance came to me.  At first I rejected it as just my notion, but a day later, I know that what I experienced was really meant to be followed.  A day later, I followed your guidance.  And tomorrow will be the better for an obedient turn of my mind and spirit.

Thank You for even the shocks of this day.  In the past day, I have learned of one death, and there is someone clinging to life, now without life support.  Be with us in these matters of life and death.  And help us to know, as Ruth Montgomery’s Guides said, that death is like walking through an open door.

Amen.

Beginning Today to Consider A Course of Love

“The separated self or the ego does not learn.  Even when the ego has taken many courses and received many teachings, the ego has not learned but has merely become threatened.  (A Course of Love, P. 3)”

Affirmation:  “I would have my ego threatened out of existence.”

Reflections:

1 – Beginning A Course of Love

Today begins a six-month consideration of the first volume of A Course of Love, channeled by Mari Perron and first published in 2001.   Mari’s belief, which many share with her, is that this is a sequel to A Course in Miracles, meant to draw together many of the ideas that Jesus wants to impart to us.  ACIM dislodged the ego, but some of us have been somewhat “stuck” since that happened, and A Course of Love appeals to both the mind and the heart, in concert with each other, to let us know that we really do not have to keep seeking.  We are learning, though, in the first volume.  This first volume, in my opinion, can be read even by those who have not been students of A Course in Miracles, because Jesus lays the groundwork for the three-volume A Course of Love by drawing comparisons with A Course in Miracles.  This blog will attempt to do the same, drawing parallels when doing so seems particularly appropriate to me personally.

2 – Seeking

Those of us who have spent our lifetime seeking do know of what  passage for today speaks.  There always seems to be another thing to learn, another book to read, another spiritual tradition to explore.  But we find in A Course of Love that this is the time for an end to seeking.  For us, Jesus is the Way, and he has spoken in the three volumes of A Course of Love to encourage us to stop our mindless exploration, to stop tantalizing the ego with yet another way.  We have our way, and that way, if we believe that A Course of Love is a sequel to A Course in Miracles, that in these two works, we have our way.

3 – ACIM Dispels the Ego

A Course in Miracles spent much time trying to dispel the hold that the ego had on our minds.  Now, in A Course of Love, we are encouraged to get beyond the ego, once and for all.  We are ready for the message of complete acceptance that Jesus offers to us, however marred we still think we are because of mistakes made and perhaps not recognized.  We are even told in A Course of Love that we do not need to worry so much about “perfection.”  Just as we were told in ACIM that Jesus will stand at the end to correct any mistakes that we ourselves cannot correct, A Course of Love (ACOL) states this promise in even stronger terms.

4 – Embraced by Jesus

So we find ourselves at the beginning of the first volume in the trilogy of A Course of Love.  We will find ourselves comforted, even embraced by Jesus.  Let us learn what we finally need to learn, and then let us realize that the time of learning is close to an end.  And then let us rejoice!  We have our pathway.  We need no others.  ACIM and ACOL will lead us home.

5 – Welcome Comments

I welcome your comments as we proceed with A Course of Love.  You will find, as I have, a certainty of salvation that even A Course in Miracles lacked.  Jesus says that we are the “Accomplished,” even though we ourselves believe that the ego is still in ascendancy.  The ego may be in ascendancy, but this problem is readily alleviated.  As we will see.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

May I learn what I still need to learn, and then may I be satisfied.  I plan to cease my constant seeking, as Jesus has reassured me that I now know enough to live well.  Thank You for this.

May my ego wither away.  None of needs an ego, in the sense that Jesus defines it, and we will learn through observation all that we need to know.  The time is now.  And I pray that I am ready.

Amen.
