Choose the Heart and Bypass the Mind

“As you read, be aware of your heart, for this is where this learning enters and will stay.  Your heart is now your eyes and ears.  Your mind can remain within your concept of the brain, for we bypass it now and send it no information for it to process, no data for it to compute. (A Course of Love, 3.14)”

Affirmation:  “May I be aware of my heart today.”

Reflections:

1 – An Appeal to the Heart

A Course of Love appeals, in this early section of the first volume, to the heart.  (Later on, Jesus will appeal to both the heart and mind, and call this “wholeheartedness.”)  The heart does not demand proof in the same way that the mind, so recently bereft of the ego, does.  We risk falling back in to the ego whenever we rely too heavily upon the mind (an interpretation, not stated in either ACIM nor ACOL).

2 – Heart Knows Love

The heart knows love.  And therefore does not demand the intellectual gyrations that all too often the mind tries to engage in.  The heart “listens” with an inner ear to Jesus, and therein knows the truth of what he speaks.  The heart is our next step to Christ-consciousness.

3 – Bypass the Mind

Note that Jesus here says that he will give no more words to the mind to comprehend.  He will bypass the mind.  And this is good.  For too many of us have sought and sought, gone from one system of thought, especially religious thought, to another.  And we have never gotten the green light to just stop and be satisfied.  Until now.  In A Course of Love, Jesus says that the seeking is over.  We are accomplished.  We have reached the conclusion of the pathway.  And we are safe in Jesus’s arms in an embrace (to be considered later in this blog).

4 – All Is Well

Be grateful to the one who walked before us on this pathway.  We do not have to feel alone ever again.  Of course, most of us know intellectually that we are not alone, but here we feel the solace in our hearts.  And all is well.

Prayer:

Dear Father/Mother,

I would “listen” with my heart today.  I would not try to understand through the limited ways of the mind, the learning that we are leaving behind in A Course of Love.  May I entertain some of those “thoughts that I do not think,” just as Mari scribed ACOL.  May this new way of discovery be the way that I walk, beginning today.

Amen.
