Jesus: “I Heard One Voice because I Understood that I Could Not Atone for Myself Alone.”

1 – Holy Spirit

“I heard one Voice because I understood that I could not atone for myself alone. (T82)”

This one Voice is the Voice of the Holy Spirit; this Voice is how Jesus knew what to do, and when. This Voice is also how we know what to do, and when. There is no difference. The Christ Self is a shared Self.

2 – One Voice

“Listening to one Voice implies the decision to share It in order to hear It yourself. (T82)”

We do hear the Voice because Jesus set in motion the means by which we can hear. Certain Old Testament/Hebrew Bible prophets certainly heard the Voice as well, but we normally consider that this gift was reserved for Pentecost, occurring in the New Testament, for the masses for believed in Jesus’s mission and Atonement for us.

3 – Sharing

But Jesus shared Who he had heard. And in the sharing we were gifted with a great blessing. This is the Holy Spirit, our guidance as to what to say and do. Only when we have walked further along the pathway, approaching Awakening/Christ-consciousness, do we rely on the Christ Self within. All are aspects of the Trinity—the spark of divinity within, Father (God), Son (Christ), and Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost).

4 – Mind

“The Mind that was in me is still irresistibly drawn to every mind created by God, because God’s Wholeness is the wholeness of His Son. (T82)”

This Mind is the Holy Spirit, also known as the Universal Inspiration (from the ACIM Text). This Mind is drawn to us when we have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And this is traditional Christian orthodoxy. The lineage from the New Testament is, to my mind, clear.

5 – You Cannot Be Hurt

“You cannot be hurt, and do not want to show your brother anything except your wholeness. Show him that he cannot hurt you and hold nothing against him, or you hold it against yourself. This is the meaning of ‘turning the other cheek.’ (T82)”

It hurts our brother for him (or her) to see that he has hurt us. While our brother may not tell us this, and he even may not recognize it, still is it true. We cannot seek to hurt another without being in pain ourselves.

6 – The Self

Our real Self cannot be hurt in any way. This is a magnificent truth that even among seasoned veterans of ACIM can easily be overlooked as we live daily in this world.

7 – Suffering / Pain

Certainly we seem to suffer, or, at the least, to know pain–even when it doesn’t lead to real suffering. Yet the Self continues unabated. The Self knows that we are whole.

8 – Turn the Other Cheek

What a blessing to have in ACIM with this interpretation of the New Testament injunction of “turn the other cheek.” So often over the years have Christians sought to understand this Scripture, and so often we have failed to understand. May this remedy of A Course in Miracles end that confusion. We are whole Selves, and a part of us that we do not usually recognize is unhurt by anything that the world can do to us.

Affirmation: “You cannot be hurt.”

Dear Father,

Now that I know the real meaning of “turn the other cheek,” may I do so promptly when something happens that disturbs me. May I realize that my real Self is never hurt at all.

May I come to feel my real Self more and more. When I do so, I am safe in this world. Thank you for this safety.

Help this day to go well. It has already begun well, by which I mean that flow seems assured for the day. I got started right, for once. Thank You. Your guidance is absolutely necessary to me when I walk through a day. And my gratitude for what You have given is complete, at least so far as I can feel it.
