The Purpose of Atonement Is to Find Our Way Back to What Was Never Lost

“The Atonement is but the way back to what was never lost. Your Father could not cease to love His Son. (T-12.VIII.8)”

We did not really separate from God except in illusion. As part of Him, we could not separate and live, and we are creations given eternity. But we have thought that we separated, and the illusion is very beguiling. When we accept the Atonement that Jesus completed, we know that we never really left God’s side, His Entity. We find our way home, to what we never really lost. And that is the purpose of all of Atonement. To find our way home, finally.

God remains loving to us. Because of His Nature, He could not be otherwise than loving. And so we didn’t really lose anything in the illusory separation of which we have been a part. We have found our way back.

Note the greater peace and calm that we enjoy now. Sure, we still have our overwrought moments, but these no longer define us. We are not lost in dramas very often, and this is one of the blessings of having accepted the Atonement for ourselves.

God didn’t forget about us when we thought we had left Him. He remains constant, a constant Presence Who will always be faithful to His creations. And, in our better moments, we recognize our Oneness with Him, and we are at peace, experiencing calm.
