“There is nothing about me that you cannot attain. I have nothing that does not come from God. The main difference between us as yet is that I have nothing else. That leaves me in a state of true holiness, which is only potential in you.” (ACIM, COA ed., T-1.46.16:1-4)
Here Jesus explains, more or less, that we are moving on the same pathway that he has traversed. We will get there, for he has promised elsewhere that he stands at the end of the carpet to resolve any mistakes that we could not correct.
Why not follow his advice, as an elder brother who has already found out how to return to God, how to heal the separation. We would be very foolish to turn aside from his recommendations, for he is smoothing the way for us. We can only imagine that his pathway was more difficult than ours, though the fact that he remained so close to God might have been a mitigating factor.
We have only the potential to be as Jesus is. Everything that he has comes from God, and we have gotten lost in irrelevancies brought about by the misuse of our free will. We can get back home; it is only a matter of time. But the world winds on wearily, and there is much suffering as we walk in a mist of our own making.
Enough of this! Revel in the joy of knowing that Jesus is here for us, right here, holding our hand. He will call (as I have often quoted) upon “one unequivocal call.”
When he comes, don’t forget to thank him.
