“The Last Judgment is generally thought of as a procedure undertaken by God. Actually, it will be undertaken solely by the Sonship with my help. It is a final healing rather than a meting out of punishment, however much you may think punishment is deserved. Punishment as a concept is in total opposition to right-mindedness. The aim of the Final Judgment is to restore right-mindedness to you.” (ACIM, COA ed., T-2.XIII.4:1-5)
This is the purpose of the Last Judgment: to restore right-mindedness to God’s children. We can’t bring ourselves out of insanity; it is far beyond what we can do. We must simply surrender, turn ourselves—body and soul—over to God, and let Him work the miracle.
We do think that we deserve punishment, but this is just a ploy by the ego to make us fear God, and thus turn to it for protection. But the insane ego doesn’t mean us well. Wholly insane, it represents the very best that we could devise apart from God. And a sorry solution it was! When we tried, in vain, to make a world apart from God, and experiences apart from Him, we only lost ourselves. We only hurt. And this is not God’s will for us.
The Last Judgment will be meted out by the Sonship, the brothers of Jesus. We will know when this procedure is happening. We will be led, ever so gently, to reassess our bearings, to reconsider our choices. And then we will have tasks to complete to take us back to God. Some of the Last Judgment may occur in an altered state of mind.
We can look forward to this healing. And it is indeed true that some of us have already experienced it, though our minds may have been protected from the brunt of it for a time. Hypnosis sometimes provides this elixir.
Welcome the Last Judgment, for it is healing indeed.
