We Need to Blossom

And God wonders, “Well, it is interesting. These roses that I have created seem to have a mind of their own. As the elixir I tried to give them rises through the stems, they tie themselves in little knots and only a little bit of the elixir reaches out. So the petals never quite blossom fully.” (“The Way of the Heart,” WOM, Lesson 4, Page 49)

The “tie themselves in little knots” is, of course, exactly what we do when we worry. And many of us are prone to worry a lot of the time.

How do we get beyond this worry, this tension? We cast all our care on God. We allow His life-giving sap to rise in our limbs, and when we do, we know the expansion that Jesus is talking about in this quotation.

To expand is to grow. And that oft-quoted idea from the Talmud is that an angel leans over every blade of grass, saying, “Grow, grow.”

We are like that blade of grass. Our growth is extension. We might not get it right the first time when we try. But our batting average rises exponentially when we let God have the reins of our life. The Holy Spirit speaks for Him; let the Holy Spirit into our lives. Then the growth that we will experience, the expansion, will be noble and good.

And we will know what it means to truly live for the first time.
