Quiet Places of the Heart

“Even as the thoughts of the world stream through your brain-mind, even as the sensory data are received through the cellular structures of the nervous system of the body, you can relinquish these things, and act only from that depth of perfect wisdom, perfect safety and perfect peace. Let this be a time of ‘thanksgiving.’ Will it be that time in which you truly give thanks for the grace that sets you free? Will you honor that grace by descending of the stairway to the quiet places of the heart in each of your days?” (“The Way of the Heart,” WOM, Lesson 11, Page 139)

When we have a busy mind, we are kept from the depths of our being, losing touch with our soul. But we can dip deeply into our mind, and still act from “perfect wisdom, perfect safety and perfect peace.” This better view comes when we relinquish the busyness, and just sink into quietness. This quietness will give us both happiness and calm, because it is the best thing that we have going for us.

Jesus seems here to be asking us to meditate. And certainly spiritual teachers everywhere and of every time have counseled meditation. The happiness and calm that we know after a little while of meditation is palpable. We are much more prone to love, in the greatest sense possible. When we are stressed, love goes out the window.

We thus need to descend the stairway to the quiet place of the heart in each of our days.

It will make all the difference.
