“I ask you to observe the pattern of concern, the recurring pattern of worry. Always it takes concrete form: maybe money, a business, health, the safety of the children. Everyone has an area in which they feel insecure. Maybe there are several areas, but they are always few and very specific. We now work with these areas to experience those patterns of thought and emotional responses, and to transmute them.” Choose Only Love bk.3, 3:I
We get very practical help from Jesus here. All of us have worries, and here he recognizes that these are very specific, and few, concerns. We can lift our mind and heart from these negativisms, and Jesus is willing and able to help us do so. Let’s accept his help.
Of course, sometimes specific worries escalate into what is called “free-floating anxiety.” Even if we suffer from this, we can spend some time in contemplation as we search out the specificity of what we are anxious about. Identify the concerns, and take them one by one to a Higher Power.
We are not meant to dwell in worry. At base, we are handicapped in trust. If we open our mind and heart to God Himself, He will teach us how to trust Him in all things.
Then the concerns will fall away, often immediately.
