“The presence of fear is a sure sign that you are trusting in your own strength. The awareness that there is nothing to fear shows that somewhere in your mind, though not necessarily in a place you recognize as yet, you have remembered God, and let His strength take the place of your weakness. The instant you are willing to do this there is indeed nothing to fear. (WB77)”
1 – Turn to God
When we turn to God, the fear will dissipate. When we trust in ourselves, fear is inevitable. This is the simple truth, but, oh, how hard it may be to live!
2 – Anxiety Attack Will Abate
If we take a timeout and turn to God, our anxiety attack may abate, especially if we commune with God at such a time. He is there for us. He takes away the pain.
3 – What Would God Change in Our Lives?
It may be useful to ask God what He would like changed in our lives. Sometimes we have anxiety attacks when our inner minds know that we are on the wrong pathway. And the anxiety is there to remind us of something that needs to be changed. The Holy Spirit will speak to us, not audibly, but in an interior sense. And we will be well on our way to walking away from the fear in which we find ourselves engulfed.
4 – Remember God
We must “remember” God, and “let His strength take the place of. . .weakness.” This is the way that Jesus recommends. This is the pathway we must take.
5 – Turning to God Is the Answer
It is easy to forget that turning to God is the answer, as always. Even in fear, which sometimes seems so all-encompassing. The fear may not subside immediately, because our adrenaline is present, but moments of quiet in prayer will bring peace. Then we will know the truth of what Jesus recommends.
I would listen to my own reflections today. Fear has reared its ugly head, and that means that the ego is trying to reawaken in me. I would let the ego wither away. Help me to do so today, and then may I know anxiety and fear no more.
Be with me as I seek to live a peaceful and tranquil life. I would be perfectly calm and quiet all the time, as Jesus promises in A Course in Miracles. Be with me today as I walk away from any fears that appear to threaten my ease of mind.
