ACIM Workbook Lesson 263 – for Tuesday, September 20, 2011
Affirmation: “My holy vision sees all things as pure.”
“I would not perceive such dark and fearful images. A madman’s dream is hardly fit to be my choice, instead of al the loveliness with which You blessed creation; all its purity, its joy, and its eternal, quiet home in You. (WB427)”
In this world all of us are subject to stress that escalates into distress. We become scared for our livelihood, our finances, our health, our safety, and a myriad of other factors–many of which we cannot control. At such times of fear, we are generally tempted to apply even more control to those things in our lives that we think we can control. And we worry.
A Course in Miracles would not have it so. These fearsome things are images, illusory images because we live in an illusory world. This does not mean that we close our eyes to the dream in which we find ourselves. That would hardly be practical, and Jesus has said in ACIM that it is the practical with which this course is most concerned. We would be wise to put our faith in a Higher Power to sustain us. The more we entertain fearful thoughts, the more likely we will create self-fulfilling prophecies (an interpretation, not stated in ACIM). In this world, we need to focus on the safety that God promises, and we need to know that regardless of what happens to our fragile bodies, our real Self has not been hurt in any way whatsoever. The real Self ultimately transcends death and any and all suffering that we have experienced in this sometimes nightmarish world.
Let us ask God to soothe our worried brow today. May we not choose to put our faith in “security” as defined by this world. Actually, such security will virtually always fail us, because it is a part of the ego’s interpretation of where we are. We are often caught in a nightmare, and even when the dream seems pleasant, it may quickly and unexpectedly change into something fearful. Our holy minds are made for something better. Let us turn to the Holy Spirit for guidance in navigating this world. Things turn out much better when we put our trust in Him, and when we consistently follow His advice. He means us well; the ego does not. If the guidance that we perceive is loving, then we can normally be assured that we are not listening to the ego and attributing sometimes impulsive gestures to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. That is the proviso. Be sure that the guidance that we follow is love (of God) and not fear (of the ego).
I would walk through this day with the vision that You give, the vision that see purity, even in this world. I would not focus on a madman’s dreams; I would not be insane. Help me to visualize the good in everyone and everything. Be with me as I seek to know Your will today in my life.
Thank You for the vision that sees purity. It is all that there really is; the rest is illusion. Help me to feel this understanding within my depths. Be there, in the depths, for me to sense Your presence throughout the day.
