Miraculous Thinking

“It is certainly much more useful for me to remind you that you do not guard your thoughts at all carefully, except for a relatively small part of the day, and somewhat inconsistently even then. You may feel at this point that it would take a miracle to enable you to do this, which is perfectly true. Human beings are not used to miraculous thinking, but they can be trained to think that way.” (ACIM, COA ed., T-2.X.9:1-3)

If we expect a miracle, we are likely to find ourselves experiencing one. Miracles are our blessings, and it is only the skeptical mind that will make accepting them difficult.

Here we are encouraged to guard our minds, because we often lapse into negative thinking with resultant manifestations that are unfortunate. Probably Jesus was at first speaking to Helen here, since the words seem so personal and have personal knowledge of thought processes. But the words are widely applicable to us, and we would benefit a great deal if we take Jesus’ advice to heart. Lift up our minds to higher thinking, and watch our days go by pleasantly. Perhaps at first the exercise will be inconsistent, but the reward is great.

Watch our thinking. Our mind is precious, and Jesus would have us use it wisely.
