Separation and the Ego Are Actually Impossible

“The full awareness of the Atonement, then, is the recognition that the separation never occurred. The ego cannot prevail against this because it is an explicit statement that the ego never occurred. (T-6.II.10)”

The separation occurred only in illusion, when our minds became mad from a “tiny, mad idea” about which we forgot to “laugh.” Because we are a part of God, separation is actually impossible. This is the full awareness that the quotation tries to cover.

We need to turn aside from the ego, and we can do so, particularly, when we realize that this “part of belief” about ourselves never actually occurred. The ego will not be destroyed, but will simply cease to seem to be. We will be Awake, and these vestiges of madness, insanity, will fall away.

The future looks bright with such a prognosis, doesn’t it? We simply turn aside from belief in that which could actually never be, and we return to being co-creators with God, creating in like Mind and living in the Love with which He created us. What this creation will look like, nobody can say. But it will be free of pain and suffering in the illusion that we made for ourselves. We will dwell in peace. And what more could we ask?

  1. Well written, and I like that you identify that in the phenomenal realm true separation from ego is not possible, though we are able to turn away from it and release its control on our thoughts and actions. I must disagree that complete separation is entirely impossible, however. When one is able to enter the transcendental realm, which yes very few are ever able to do, one experiences the Absolute void – this is where complete detachment occurs, however briefly. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Have a wonderful day! xo

  2. I’m so excited to have found this blog! I am reading Marianne Williamson’s “Return to Love Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles” for the second time. It is mind blowing. I have been forever impacted since I first read two years ago.

You were able to read the actual “Course in Miracles” books? If so, where did you find them?

    1. Thanks for your comment. You can order A Course in Miracles from the Miracle Distribution Center; see my blogroll, at the bottom of the blog on the left-hand side. The Miracle Distribution Center mails the same day that the order is placed. ACIM is also found in bookstores, of course, and copies are in all likelihood (I haven’t checked) available from Amazon and Ebay, including used copies. An e-book version of ACIM is also available for the kindle, and probably for the nook as well (I haven’t checked the latter).

Good luck in your reading. It will change your life.

      Most cordially, Celia
