Say Good – Bye Forever to the Ego

“Reality needs no cooperation from you to be itself.  But your awareness of it needs your help, because it is your choice.  Listen to what the ego says, and see what it directs you see, and it is sure that you will see yourself as tiny, vulnerable and afraid.  You will experience depression, a sense of worthlessness, and feelings of impermanence and unreality.  You will believe that you are helpless prey to forces far beyond your own control, and far more powerful than you.  And you will think the world you made directs your destiny.  For this will be your faith.  But never believe because it is your faith it makes reality.”  (A Course in Miracles, FIP ed., T-21.V.2)

True reality is benign as well as good.  The ego would have us believe that we are powerless, something that agnostics deny (but have a hard time denying).  The ego is always present when we see ourselves as frail, for we are actually very strong, full of the wherewithal to get things done.  Only in God’s Shadow can we truly see such positive things in our circumscribed minds.  Otherwise, we always revert to the ego’s opinion, which is that we are weak and needs its help to be protected from all harm.

The ego lies.  It does not protect us from all harm.  It merely gives an illusion of protection, and then, when we are most vulnerable, pulls the rug out from under us—dashing us to the ground with feelings of inferiority.  The ego does not mean us well (from ACIM).  The ego is a part of our belief about ourselves, our separated selves, a separation that is also illusory but from which we need to emerge.

Our true reality is one of great power and great love.  The two go hand in hand.  Only when we turn aside from the ego do we begin to sense our power.  We must remember, of course, that to outright reject the ego would make a force field that increases the ego’s strength in us.  The act of resistance makes the egoic notions strong.  But we turn aside gently, and then real power comes flowing into us.  We are activating our Self, the Son (and Daughter) of God.

What more could we want to do today?

  1. I love your blog! You followed mine years ago and that’s how I found yours, and I’m very grateful I did. I love ACIM and appreciate your writings on it, as well as on the other texts. Wonderful affirmations, and very well-written. A peaceful oasis. <33 xoxo
